THE UNCONQUERED
By Torben Betts. Winner of the Best New Play and nominated for Best Design in the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland. This play received overwhelming critical acclaim when it toured last year.
Powerful poetic language, dark humour and provocative ideas as a fiercely intelligent young girl struggles against the state and its absurd imperialist logic. She seeks out the meaning of community when suddenly a people's revolution breaks out. When a mercenary soldier intrudes into the family home, the conflict between the regime and the unconquered girl is revealed.
Under the direction of Muriel Romanes and with a striking setting designed by visual artist Keith McIntyre, an ensemble of high profile actors will draw you into a surreal and compelling theatrical experience.
"...a real pleasure....brilliantly realised...only 90 minutes long, the scope of the play is as vast as any four-hour epic..." THE TIMES
"...a radical and satirical take on ideas of social propriety ....bone-shatteringly powerful conclusion..." DAILY TELEGRAPH
"Torben Betts is one of the most exciting theatre writing talents I have come across in many a year" ALAN AYCKBOURN
