JACOBITE COUNTRY
Thurs 23rd September, 8pm
A new comedy by Henry Adam from the makers of the international hit The Tailor of Inverness. Jacobite Country is a scintillating new comedy about fame, vanity and mental illness by one of Scotland’s outstanding playwrights.
Selling his soul and his roots, Haggis McSporran has become King of Comedy in the fleshpots of London. He returns home to the Highlands in search of new material. His old pal Craitur Face, now a renegade DJ on Jacobite Radio might help. Along the way they meet the Loch Ness Monster and prevent Uncle Angus from invading England (again).
With live music and tremendous craic.
"…a wild roving comedy that takes the clichés of the male Scots psyche that attempts to bridge the cultural tug of war between hand-me-down myth and more modern times. Adam’s preoccupations resemble those of American writer Sam Shepard’s own relationship with the wild west, which the Highlands can arguably be said to be the equivalent of…Top work by Sarah Haworth as Haggis cuts through any temptation there might otherwise be for macho showboating, investing things with a surreal cartoon air instead..." "…a Scottish One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest without the sanity - certainly worth seeing… Edinburghguide.com
